That's absurd. I've met bad players with their own vent server, and good players without a mic. While players with a headset and access to vent are more LIKELY to be good players (having invested money and, one assumes, time and effort into playing,) they are not ASSURED to be good players. And the opposite is true. I play late at night, when the rest of the house is asleep. I can't be speaking into a headset all night and waking people up. So, no vent.

Wow, that is a serious generalisation.
Just because you can talk does not make you a good or bad player & I'll bet most of the top end players who don't have vent will be pretty pissed off at that comment.
Stick same (good) vent player in a non-vent team, does that mean he is now a bad player?

Dont like TS/Vent groups?

solution1: dont join them

OR

solution2: whine and cry on forums

OR

solution3: exaggerate "forced to use it to experience certain content"

Don't bother, most of the posts I've seen by this guy have been deliberately provocative.

I'll never even consider using voice communication. I use my ears and my voice to communicate with the people I share my home with, not to talk to some twerps over the internet. My guild feels much the same, so there's no problem there.

And really, outside of my guild, I have no wish to learn anything about the people in the game anyway, certainly not what they sound like. Most people are annoying enough without submitting myself to their voices. I like to maintain all the distance I can.

Having said all that, I haven't played any PvE ever that needed voice comm. Set aside a few minutes to have a prep chat at some points, and you're good to go.

I just expressed my discomfort and asked the opinion of the community in my original post. What's wrong with that?

You think I'd bother starting a thread if the solution was as simple as not joining those groups? It's the fact that every group (in DoA, in my case) required people to use it which made me post.

Just download the client, enter the server, name yourself Anarkii(No mic) and mute the damned thing.

You are not willing to accomodate to others' needs, you expect others to be accomodating towards you? What hypocracy.

It is not a requirement for teams that actually have a clue. It can make the whole experience more fun though, if you are playing with friends.

People in my alliance are on Vent whenever they play. I guess it's fun to be talking to some people while you're playing with heroes/henchies. I used it when I used to do the Deep and Urgoz, but I haven't touched DoA yet, mainly because I want to get my warrior through the game first (Paragon has completed NF already).
I tend to stray away from Vent, although I do have a mic/headset. For instance, today... alliance group for Pogahn Passage - there were 4 of us. All 3 except me were on Vent. I was asked to join them, but there's a problem with my Vent account. *wink*wink*nudge*nudge* Haven't been able to log-in for weeks, but I could care less about getting it fixed. I'm lazy.

Ahh, but GREAT players have TS. (LESSON: If you're going to make silly statements, you really should go all-out)

On Topic: Voice Comms are a good way to get the teamwork going well. They're especially useful in co-ordinating each party members roles and setting up strategy. My guildies have used them for years playing FPS games and have enjoyed a ton of success when playing other squads in matches. When we're partied up in GW, we always have a good time; things get kinda silly during cut-scenes. Even if you don't have a mic, being able to listen in on what's going on helps the party's chances of success.

They can also help weed out the less-than-desireable people from a party before leaving town. I'm refering to foul-mouthed twits and "uber-leet" know-it-alls who have to dictate what the party's make-up and skills must be, etc.

From the social aspect, it's easier to tell when someone is joking when you hear them talking instead of typing. It's also a good way to make friends and have more fun than just running around killing stuff.

It drives me nuts when people are type chatting in the middle of a battle! One less thing to put up with when everyones on voice comms.

Voice comm is usually for the hardcore gamer.
A lot of people don't use them, but in DOA you'll see a lot more people using them because it's difficulty attracts the hardcore crowd.
It's not all bad to try using TS or vent, just pray you don't get the that guy.
You all know that guy.

Whilst this is true, at least for serious PVP players, it does not necessarily equate to good players wanting to go on Vent for PVE.

Going on Vent can be a real headache a lot of the times. Ie: A lot of people on Vent are too stupid to turn off the maddening "beep" sounds on "push to talk" and having to tell them to do it multiple times every few minutes grows very tiresome, very fast.

Having Vent is not equal to wanting to go on it for PVE.

Woa calm down I have my own vent server that I use in other games. The crux of my post was that I didnt like using it in a Role-Playing Game, which the PvE aspect of GW is in essence.

That's extremely arrogant and assumptuous. If someone generalized like that I'd leave the party faster than they could kick me out. I don't have ts/vent because my sound card is broken, and besides, I don't think I'd use it even if it worked. Your attitude is pretty insulting and ignorant. I'd accept that you won't group with anyone without ts/vent, but to say that they're bad players is just idiotic. WTS common sense.

I agree that it sucks for anyone that doesn't use a voip, when all the hardcore groups do, but that's where gems like Leeroy Jenkins are born.

Personnaly, I prefer to use a voip 'cause I can't type worth a damn. :P
